Description
A festive and refreshing spritzer perfect for Thanksgiving, featuring spiced pear and sparkling wine.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ripe pears, peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3–4 whole cloves
- 1-inch piece fresh ginger, sliced
- 1 bottle (750ml) dry sparkling wine or prosecco, chilled
- Fresh cranberries and rosemary sprigs for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Combine chopped pears, water, sugar, cinnamon stick, cloves, and ginger in a small saucepan.
- Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until pears are very tender.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Remove cinnamon stick, cloves, and ginger. Transfer the pear mixture to a blender and blend until smooth.
- Strain the pear puree through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher, pressing to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard solids.
- Chill the pear syrup thoroughly in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- To assemble the spritzers, pour about 2-3 tablespoons of pear syrup into each glass.
- Top with chilled sparkling wine or prosecco.
- Garnish with fresh cranberries and rosemary sprigs, if desired.
Notes
- The pear syrup can be made up to 2-3 days in advance and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- Adjust the sweetness of the syrup to your preference by adding more or less sugar.
- For a non-alcoholic version, use sparkling cider or seltzer instead of sparkling wine.
- This recipe yields approximately 6-8 servings, depending on glass size.
