- 6 large eggs, separated
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup bourbon
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg, plus more for garnish
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar until pale and thick.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, heavy cream, bourbon, and vanilla extract.
- In a separate clean bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold the egg whites into the egg yolk mixture.
- Chill the eggnog for at least 2 hours before serving.
- Serve cold, garnished with a sprinkle of nutmeg.
Notes
- For a non-alcoholic version, omit the bourbon and add an extra teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Eggnog can be made up to 2 days in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
