  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened (for filling)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (for filling)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for filling)

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk until lukewarm. Stir in the 1/4 cup butter, 1/4 cup white sugar, and salt until dissolved. Let cool to room temperature.
  2. Sprinkle the yeast over the milk mixture and let it stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Beat in the egg. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5 to 7 minutes until smooth. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled.
  5. Punch down the dough. Roll it out into a 12×18 inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  6. Spread the 1/2 cup softened butter evenly over the dough. Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle this mixture over the butter.
  7. Roll the dough tightly, starting from the long side. Cut the roll into 12 equal pieces.
  8. Place the rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Notes

  • You can make a simple glaze using powdered sugar and a little milk to drizzle over the warm rolls.
  • For softer rolls, cover the pan with aluminum foil for the first 10 minutes of baking.
