Description
A refreshing homemade lemonade infused with fresh strawberries and basil.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup fresh lemon juice (from about 6–8 lemons)
- 6 cups cold water
- Ice cubes
- Lemon slices and basil sprigs for garnish
Instructions
- In a blender, combine sliced strawberries, basil leaves, and 1 cup of water. Blend until smooth.
- Strain the strawberry-basil mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher, pressing to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids.
- In a small saucepan, combine sugar and 1 cup of water. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved, creating a simple syrup. Let it cool slightly.
- Add the lemon juice and the cooled simple syrup to the pitcher with the strawberry-basil liquid. Stir well.
- Add the remaining 4 cups of cold water to the pitcher. Stir to combine.
- Chill the lemonade in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Serve over ice, garnished with lemon slices and fresh basil sprigs.
Notes
- For a less sweet lemonade, reduce the amount of sugar.
- You can adjust the amount of lemon juice to your taste.
- For a sparkling version, replace some of the water with club soda.
