Description
A classic holiday drink with a kick of spiced rum.
Ingredients

- 6 large eggs
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1.5 cups spiced rum
- Whipped cream for garnish (optional)
- Ground nutmeg for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy.
- In a saucepan, heat the milk and heavy cream over medium heat until just simmering. Do not boil.
- Slowly temper the hot milk mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened enough to coat the back of a spoon. Do not boil.
- Remove from heat and stir in the nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves.
- Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean bowl or pitcher.
- Stir in the spiced rum.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to chill and allow the flavors to meld.
- Serve chilled, garnished with whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg if desired.
Notes
- For a non-alcoholic version, omit the spiced rum.
- You can adjust the amount of sugar to your preference.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
