Description

A classic and easy shrimp cocktail recipe with a tangy sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 pounds large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 lemon, halved
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup prepared horseradish
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Fill a large pot with water and add the lemon halves. Bring to a boil.
  2. Add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the boiling water and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until pink and opaque.
  3. Drain the shrimp and immediately transfer to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process.
  4. Once cooled, drain the shrimp again and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the ketchup, horseradish, fresh lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve the chilled shrimp with the cocktail sauce.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of horseradish to your preference for spice.
  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of old bay seasoning to the boiling water.
