Description
A classic and comforting stuffing recipe perfect for any holiday meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf (1 pound) day-old bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 2 cups chopped yellow onion (about 1 large)
- 1 1/2 cups chopped celery (about 3 stalks)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon dried sage
- 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the bread cubes on a baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until lightly toasted.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onion and celery and cook until softened, about 8-10 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- Stir in the salt, pepper, sage, thyme, and rosemary.
- In a large bowl, combine the toasted bread cubes and the onion-celery mixture.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the chicken broth and beaten eggs. Pour this mixture over the bread and vegetable mixture. Gently toss to combine, ensuring all bread cubes are moistened.
- Transfer the stuffing to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the stuffing is heated through.
Notes
- For a crispier stuffing, bake uncovered.
- You can add other ingredients like chopped apples, cranberries, or nuts for extra flavor and texture.
- If your bread is very fresh, you may need to toast it longer to achieve the right texture.
