Description

A classic and comforting stuffing recipe perfect for any holiday meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf (1 pound) day-old bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 2 cups chopped yellow onion (about 1 large)
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped celery (about 3 stalks)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the bread cubes on a baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until lightly toasted.
  2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onion and celery and cook until softened, about 8-10 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the salt, pepper, sage, thyme, and rosemary.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the toasted bread cubes and the onion-celery mixture.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the chicken broth and beaten eggs. Pour this mixture over the bread and vegetable mixture. Gently toss to combine, ensuring all bread cubes are moistened.
  6. Transfer the stuffing to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the stuffing is heated through.

Notes

  • For a crispier stuffing, bake uncovered.
  • You can add other ingredients like chopped apples, cranberries, or nuts for extra flavor and texture.
  • If your bread is very fresh, you may need to toast it longer to achieve the right texture.
