Irresistible Grilled Cheese Sloppy Joes

Description

A unique twist on a classic, combining the comfort of Sloppy Joes with the cheesy goodness of grilled cheese.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 slices bread
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain off fat.
  2. Add onion and green bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. While the sloppy joe mixture simmers, butter one side of each slice of bread.
  5. Place 4 slices of bread, butter-side down, in a clean skillet over medium heat. Top each with 1 slice of American cheese and 1 slice of cheddar cheese.
  6. Spoon about 1/2 cup of the sloppy joe mixture onto the cheese.
  7. Top with the remaining 4 slices of bread, butter-side up.
  8. Grill for 3-5 minutes per side, until golden brown and cheese is melted.
  9. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a dash of Worcestershire sauce to the sloppy joe mixture.
  • You can use your favorite types of cheese.
