A unique twist on a classic, combining the comfort of Sloppy Joes with the cheesy goodness of grilled cheese.
Ingredients

- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 8 slices bread
- 4 slices American cheese
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 tablespoons butter
Instructions
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain off fat.
- Add onion and green bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- While the sloppy joe mixture simmers, butter one side of each slice of bread.
- Place 4 slices of bread, butter-side down, in a clean skillet over medium heat. Top each with 1 slice of American cheese and 1 slice of cheddar cheese.
- Spoon about 1/2 cup of the sloppy joe mixture onto the cheese.
- Top with the remaining 4 slices of bread, butter-side up.
- Grill for 3-5 minutes per side, until golden brown and cheese is melted.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a dash of Worcestershire sauce to the sloppy joe mixture.
- You can use your favorite types of cheese.
