  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • 8 small corn tortillas
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Chopped cilantro
  • Lime wedges

Instructions

  1. In a shallow dish, whisk together flour, cornstarch, salt, and pepper.
  2. In another shallow dish, whisk together milk and egg.
  3. Dip each shrimp first into the milk mixture, then into the flour mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated.
  4. Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry shrimp in batches for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and lime juice to make the bang bang sauce.
  7. Warm the tortillas.
  8. Assemble the tacos by filling each tortilla with fried shrimp, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and cilantro. Drizzle with bang bang sauce.
  9. Serve immediately with lime wedges.

Notes

  • For a spicier sauce, add more sriracha.
  • You can bake the shrimp instead of frying for a lighter option. Toss coated shrimp with a little oil and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 10-12 minutes.
