Description

A quick and flavorful meat sauce made easily in the Instant Pot.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Set the Instant Pot to ‘Sauté’ mode. Add olive oil.
  2. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add onion, carrots, and celery to the pot. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Pour in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, and red wine (if using). Stir well to combine.
  6. Add oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Stir again.
  7. Secure the lid and set the vent to ‘Sealing’.
  8. Cook on Manual/Pressure Cook setting on High pressure for 15 minutes.
  9. Once cooking is complete, allow for a Natural Pressure Release (NPR) for 10 minutes, then carefully perform a Quick Release (QR) for any remaining pressure.
  10. Stir the sauce before serving over your favorite pasta.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use a mix of ground beef and ground pork.
  • You can add a bay leaf during pressure cooking and remove it before serving.
