Description
A simple recipe for soft and slightly sweet oatmeal honey bread.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup warm water (105-115°F)
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Stir in honey, vegetable oil, and salt.
- Add rolled oats and 2 cups of flour. Mix until just combined.
- Gradually add the remaining 1 cup of flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down dough and shape into a loaf. Place in a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan.
- Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 190-200°F (88-93°C).
- Remove from pan and cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can toast the rolled oats lightly before adding them to the dough.
- Ensure your water is the correct temperature for the yeast to activate properly.
