Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground turkey (93% lean or higher)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) low-sodium taco seasoning mix
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 12 small corn or whole wheat tortillas
  • Toppings: shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, salsa, avocado slices

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until soft, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  3. Add ground turkey to the skillet. Break it up with a spoon and cook until browned completely. Drain off any excess fat.
  4. Stir in the taco seasoning mix and water. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  5. Reduce heat to low and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until most of the liquid has evaporated.
  6. Warm the tortillas according to package directions.
  7. Serve the turkey mixture in the warmed tortillas with your preferred toppings.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add 1 teaspoon of chili powder and 1/2 teaspoon of cumin to the meat mixture instead of using a pre-made seasoning packet.
