A rich and creamy classic eggnog recipe, perfect for the holidays.

- 6 large eggs, separated
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ cup bourbon or rum (optional)
- Whipped cream for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until light and fluffy.
- In a saucepan, heat the milk and heavy cream over medium heat until simmering, but not boiling.
- Gradually whisk the hot milk mixture into the egg yolk mixture, tempering the eggs.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened enough to coat the back of a spoon. Do not boil.
- Remove from heat and stir in the nutmeg and cinnamon.
- If using, stir in the bourbon or rum.
- Pour the eggnog into a pitcher and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or until cold.
- In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the chilled eggnog.
- Serve cold, garnished with whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg, if desired.
Notes
- For a non-alcoholic version, omit the bourbon or rum.
- You can adjust the amount of spices to your preference.
- Eggnog will thicken as it chills.
