Description

A traditional and creamy eggnog recipe perfect for the holiday season.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large eggs, separated
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg, plus more for garnish
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: 1/2 cup bourbon, rum, or brandy

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk the egg yolks with 3/4 cup of the sugar until pale and thick.
  2. Gradually whisk in the milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  3. If using alcohol, stir it in now.
  4. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  5. In a separate clean bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form.
  6. Gradually add the remaining 1/4 cup of sugar and continue beating until stiff, glossy peaks form.
  7. Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the chilled eggnog mixture.
  8. Serve chilled, garnished with a sprinkle of nutmeg.

Notes

  • For a non-alcoholic version, simply omit the spirits.
  • Ensure eggs are fresh and handled safely.
