Instructions
- In a saucepan, whisk together milk, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.
- Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it is hot and steaming but not boiling.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and peppermint extract.
- Pour the hot chocolate into mugs.
- Top with whipped cream and crushed candy canes, if desired.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use half-and-half or heavy cream instead of milk.
- Adjust the amount of peppermint extract to your preference.
