Ingredients

- 2 ripe cactus pears
- 2 ounces tequila blanco
- 1 ounce fresh lime juice
- 1/2 ounce orange liqueur (like Cointreau or Triple Sec)
- 1/2 ounce agave nectar or simple syrup (adjust to taste)
- Ice
- Lime wedges and salt for rimming (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the cactus pears by carefully peeling them and removing any spines. Cut the flesh into chunks.
- Place the cactus pear chunks in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Strain the puree through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any seeds.
- If desired, rim the glass with salt by rubbing a lime wedge around the edge and pressing it into salt.
- In a cocktail shaker, combine the cactus pear puree, tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, and agave nectar or simple syrup.
- Add ice to the shaker and shake well until chilled.
- Fill the prepared glass with fresh ice.
- Strain the margarita mixture into the glass.
- Garnish with a lime wedge.
