Description
A classic holiday drink made with eggs, milk, cream, sugar, and brandy.
Ingredients

- 6 large eggs, separated
- ¾ cup granulated sugar, divided
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup brandy
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk the egg yolks with ½ cup of the sugar until thick and pale.
- In a medium saucepan, heat the milk and cream over medium heat until just simmering.
- Slowly whisk the hot milk mixture into the egg yolk mixture.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened, about 8-10 minutes. Do not boil.
- Remove from heat and stir in the brandy, nutmeg, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites with the remaining ¼ cup sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the eggnog.
- Chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
- Serve cold, garnished with additional nutmeg if desired.
Notes
- For a non-alcoholic version, omit the brandy and add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Eggnog can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
