A classic holiday beverage with a rich and creamy texture, perfect for festive gatherings.
Ingredients

- 6 large eggs, separated
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 quart whole milk
- 1 pint heavy cream
- 1 1/2 cups bourbon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Freshly grated nutmeg, for garnish
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk the egg yolks with the sugar until light and fluffy.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the egg yolk mixture.
- In a large saucepan, heat the milk and heavy cream over medium heat until just simmering. Do not boil.
- Gradually whisk the hot milk mixture into the egg mixture.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon. Do not boil.
- Remove from heat and stir in the bourbon and vanilla extract.
- Pour the eggnog into a pitcher and chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.
- Serve chilled, garnished with freshly grated nutmeg.
Notes
- For a non-alcoholic version, omit the bourbon.
- You can adjust the amount of bourbon to your preference.
- Store leftover eggnog in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
